Chemical Feed Systems - Sodium Hypochlorite Injection for Zebra Mussel Control
Zebra Mussels have been a major problem in North America's inland waterways, which caught the attention of the pumping community.
Less than one inch in length, the Zebra Mussels can cause detriment to both pumping equipment and chemical processes. Starve suction on a water intake pump result in cavitation, causing internal wear or requiring shutdown for physical removal of the Mussels. Once in these plants, Mussels can almost immediately clog small orifices in heat exchangers and control valves. They can also block pipelines that discharge water to lakes or rivers, such as wastewater or power plant and cooling water outfalls.
Our Chemical Feed Skid can control Zebra Mussel growth at pump inlets by injecting sodium hypochlorite. Inturn, this process adds chlorine to the water supply, inhibiting their growth.
Through implementation of this Chemical Feed Skid, JESCO can eliminate masses of shells that clog the inlet pipes of water treatment plants, industrial plants, power plants, and flood control facilities.
